The design is for a limited edition release of an extended version and instrumental remix of the track from Brian Jackson's latest album, This Is Brian Jackson, and features two front cover designs based on the same illustration. The extended 12-inch single is pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl.
The design concept is based on a reading of the song that I felt was a reference to Brian Jackson's long stand professional musical partnership with the late singer-songwriter, poet, and proto-hip-hop artist Gil Scott Heron. I wanted the portrait subject to be ambiguous in that it could be based on Jackson or Scott-Heron or a combination of both.
The graphics have a vaguely black psychedelic aesthetic and tap into the visual style and colour palette of black painters such as Barkley L. Hendricks and Kwesi Botchway. The typography is an eclectic contemporary pairing of a humanist sans serif and modern italic serifed face.
