The project is for a special limited edition release for record store day 2023 and is a sampler EP of tracks taken from the compilation Boom! Italian jazz soundtracks at their finest (1959-1969), remastered and released in 2022.
It will be released as a 12-inch vinyl, CD and available for digital download and streaming.
The cover concept explores the depiction of motion in still imagery to evoke a notion of cool modernism with a warm Italian flavour.
The sharp lines and blurred forms reference analogue cine film elements and emulate filmic qualities such as focus and blur, overexposure, light leaks, and circular film reels. The abstracted roundel devices signify both vinyl record forms and pop art elements in visual culture during the timeline of the featured film soundtracks.
The aesthetic signifies a heady mix of Italianate cinematic style, excitement and passion and visualises the rhythms and vitality of the vibrant and evocative jazz featured. The colour palette merges the Italian national flag with sophisticated and alluring hues to create a visual language that evokes the period yet has contemporary appeal.
The typeface is an Italian sans-serif introduced during the period of the original release of the soundtracks featured on the record.
